Geelong waterfront renovation project sells after online auction
COVID-19 didn’t scare off families who jumped at the chance to get their hands on a prized Geelong waterfront address.
BUYERS have jumped at the chance to get their hands on a renovation project in one of Geelong’s most prized bayside locations.
The lure of a premium waterfront address with views and period features saw several parties register for Saturday’s online auction of a Federation-era house at 24 Western Beach Rd, Geelong.
Ray White, Geelong agent Laurie McGovan said two active bidders went head-to-head during the auction, which was live streamed from the agency’s office.

“The property passed in and later sold for an undisclosed amount in the mid one million range,” Mr McGovan said.
Price hopes for the three-bedroom house, which was offered for the first time in 36 years, had been $1.38 million to $1.5 million.
Mr McGovan said several Geelong families has shown interest in the front row location overlooking Corio Bay, with the COV-19 pandemic not denting their enthusiasm.
They were able to look past the dated kitchen to the beauty of the original features including a return veranda, high timber-lined ceilings and leadlight windows.
“It’s a good looking house, a good handsome house,” he said.
“It needs some work but it’s certainly a home that offers the chance to create something special.”
There is room to extend the two-storey weatherboard house on the 484sq m block, which has rear lane access that paves the way for new garaging.
The existing floorplan offers a series of separate living rooms, including a formal dining room with a corner fireplace place and loungeroom with bay views.
It last sold in 1984 for $120,500, according to CoreLogic.
