Garry Krauss: Toorak home of man who ‘saved’ Richmond for sale
The longtime home of the man credited with saving the Tigers is for sale in Toorak — and it’s not Dusty’s.
The former home of a man who “saved” the Richmond Football Club from going under is on the market in Toorak.
Once the deputy vice president and No. 1 ticket holder at the club, Garry Krauss was known for his generosity and “love of a fine cigar”.
Mr Krauss died in August last year, aged 77, and his beloved wife has just listed their immaculately styled Toorak home at 5/4 Maple Grove with a $2.25-2.75m price guide.

Marshall White Stonnington agent Andrew Hayne said the home was “beautifully positioned in the heart of Toorak”.
“It’s a very unique offering,” he said.
“It’s got great accommodation, a beautiful north-facing courtyard garden and it’s in a great location.
“They’ve done a few renovations over the journey — a new bathroom and kitchen; Garry loved his cooking — and you couldn’t be in better company with surrounding homes worth $10m to $20m.”
Mr Krauss brought the Tigers back from the brink of financial ruin in the 1980s, lending the struggling club $400,000 to get them out of debt.
He went on to become “one of the most important off-field figures in the club’s history”, according to a tribute on Richmond’s website.
“It was due to the extreme generosity of prominent businessman Krauss that Richmond was saved from extinction in the mid-1980s,” it reads.
Mr Krauss was also a board member, vice-patron and player sponsor over the four decades he was involved with the club.
The multi-level home features three bedrooms including a master with marble ensuite, a library, elevator, high ceilings and stone benchtops.
It’s set to be auctioned on March 27.
