Family ties draw Castlemaine buyer to six-bedroom Belmont house near his sister
Christmas came early for a Geelong woman on Saturday when her brother successfully bid for a house just around the corner.
A buyer delivered his extended family an early Christmas present after wrapping up the purchase of a Belmont house just around the corner from his sister.
The Castlemaine man was the highest bidder for the renovated six-bedroom home in a sought-after pocket that’s already been road-tested by his sibling.
He paid $820,000 for 23 Watson Ave at Saturday’s auction, outlasting two other bidders for the spacious weatherboard close to Belmont High School.

His sister immediately whipped out a bottle of champagne to toast the family’s good fortune and welcome the new arrival to the neighbourhood.
It was the space on offer that attracted the buyer from country Victoria, with six-bedroom houses hard to find.
The 775sq m property also has a separate studio with a powder room that lends itself to a teen retreat, home office or guest bedroom.
Buxton agent Ben Riddle said the location, close to some of Geelong’s best schools, attracted strong interest from families.
“A lot of the value is simply in the land value but you get a beautifully renovated home to boot,” he said.
He said Belmont was “the new Geelong West” and offered great value buying, with schools, shops and cafes adding to the lifestyle benefits.
