Drew Petrie: Former North Melbourne star lists Strathmore ‘forever home’
He’s a North Melbourne great and planned to stay at his custom family pad, but life’s good out west for Drew Petrie.
North Melbourne great Drew Petrie is hoping to handball the Strathmore property he thought would be his family’s “forever home”.
The former footballer has listed the five-bedroom property at 13 Grammar Street for $2.5-$2.7m after making the move to Western Australia in 2017, when he pulled on the boots for his final season of AFL with the West Coast Eagles.
Petrie played 332 AFL games after debuting in 2001, kicking an impressive 444 goals.

“We thought we’d never leave Strathmore because it’s a beautiful suburb and it’s a bit of a sleepy hollow, which I love,” Petrie said.
“But then at the end of 2016 my football days at North Melbourne came to end and West Coast rang to see if I was interested in playing one more season, so we thought we’d go on an adventure for a year to experience something different. But in short, it’s been four years and we’re still in Perth.”
He said his wife Nicole, and three kids Jack, 10, Abby, 8, and Ruby, 6, had fallen in love with the coastal lifestyle and were set to stay in Western Australia while Petrie tackled his new role as West Coast’s player development manager.
“We are sad to be selling because the kids grew up there for a number of years and had so many happy memories, so to make the call was really tough,” Petrie said.
“We had a pool and a great backyard, a cubby house and great neighbours so we loved everything about it.”
He said they purchased the property in 2008 and “bowled” the house over in 2012 in order to build their dream home.
The expansive outdoor entertainment area, open-plan living spaces, a double garage and wide windows were highlights of the modern family haven.
“Whoever purchases it can definitely live there forever,” Petrie said.
Alexkarbon North Melbourne director Charles Bongiovanni said the property has already sparked “overwhelming interest” from buyers in the area.
“It’s such a family-oriented suburb,” Mr Bongiovanni said.
“They designed it around their own young children so it’s perfectly made for families.”
Expressions of interest close March 23.
