Clever character rebuild in East Geelong smashes street record despite auction shake-up
A clever character rebuild in East Geelong attracted multiple buyers despite the last-minute auction shake-up.
MULTIPLE buyers undeterred by the changing auction landscape fuelled competition for a compact East Geelong property that punches above its size.
Health workers keen on the location, near Geelong’s medical precinct, were among those in the running for the three-bedroom weatherboard house at 24 Loch St.
It sold for $910,000 to out-of-town buyers returning to Geelong after Saturday’s planned public auction was abandoned due to COV-19 restrictions.

The result sets a new price record for Loch St, beating the previous top sale there by $160,000, according to CoreLogic records.
Gartland Property, Geelong agent Nathan Ashton said several buyers were registered to bid on the property and subsequent negotiations netted a great result.
“We had a few medical professionals that were looking at it and it had attracted a lot of interest in that street,” Mr Ashton said.
“It was not a huge block, it was around 400sq m but it was so well used.
“It had an excellent garage, which was 10m by 7m, and it had a studio upstairs.”
The character house was rebuilt 13 years ago to include an open-plan rear living zone with doors onto a covered outdoor entertainment area at the rear.
Jarrah floors, custom joinery and stone and marble benchtops are among the renovation’s features, while the double garage with rear lane access has polished concrete floors, an exposed brick wall and flexible studio space above.
