Brighton ‘deep end’ turns over $60m in a month, including $24.5m for former Zagame home
A $24.5m Brighton sale has rounded out a month of mega-sales in the Bayside suburb’s “deep end” with three homes, one owned by Ricky Ponting, making a combined $60m. See what has sold.
A Brighton house that has passed through some of Melbourne’s top business families has sold for $24.5m less than two years since it last changed hands.
The latest in a series of eight-figure sales including one by former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting, it’s revealed the extensive strength in the well-heeled Bayside enclave’s “deep end”.
Sold on June 16, the 27-29 Kent Ave property was put on the market in May with a $25m-$26.5m asking price after a change of circumstances for current owner and former Gribbles Pathology boss Wallace Cameron.

In 2021, he bought the property for $25m from Toni Zagame, wife of late hospitality industry icon Victor Zagame.
JP Dixon Real Estate boss Jonathan Dixon handled the listing and said there had been a number of parties interested, but a Melbourne-based buyer had claimed the keys.
He would not confirm sale price details.
However industry sources indicated it changed hands for $24.5m when it transacted on June 16. Combined with the Ponting’s sale and another in nearby Dudley St, the suburb has turned over about $60m of top end real estate in a trifecta of high-priced deals in the space of a month.
With only 52 homes on the beach front in the Bayside corridor, Mr Dixon said the recent rapid sales were no surprise.
“There’s always strength at the deep end,” Mr Dixon said.
“It’s just that the majority of these homes don’t come on to the market that much.”
While short of its previous sale price, the Kent Ave deal still stands as one of Brighton’s priciest ever sales.
The suburb’s record is currently held by 39 Seacombe Grove, sold for more than $30m in November last year by Buxton Brighton’s David Hart.
It’s understood Forbes Global’s Mike Gibson also notched a more than $20m sale for 12 Dudley St on May 25.
It only just preceded Mr Gibson’s sale of Ricky and Rianna Ponting’s Bayside home of the past decade, understood to have sold within the $14.8m-$16m range advertised for the home on June 8.
And there could be another high end sale still to come with 16 Moule Ave, Brighton, currently listed for $39.9m-$43.89m by Kay & Burton’s Ross Savas and Alex Schiavo.
