Belmont house with 12 registered bidders smashes auction reserve
With more registered bidders than could legally attend Saturday’s onsite auction, competition ran hot for this family-friendly property.
A Belmont house that attracted more registered bidders than could legally attend the auction has beaten reserve by almost $90,000.
Two of the 12 potential buyers had to phone in remotely for the chance to contest 4 Donald Street on Saturday.
Young couples drove competition for the three-bedroom house with a family-friendly backyard, which sold under the hammer for $699,000.

Prices hopes for the property had been $570,000 to $610,000.
Live auction numbers are capped at 10 under current coronavirus restrictions and Buxton agent Tony Moorfoot said the socially-distanced event was held in the backyard to ensure the limit was not exceeded.
He said the house was on the market with the second bid of $610,000 as one keen bidder took the competition up to buyers’ advocate Tony Slack, who eventually secured the property on behalf of Geelong couple Fiona and Lachlan Hassell.
“It went it up in $10,000s to $680,000, then it slowed down a bit with ones and twos and we sold it for $699,000 to a young couple looking for a family home,” Mr Moorfoot said.
“We had three or four buyers from Melbourne that had people there on their behalf but it was two couples from Geelong.”
The north-facing, open-plan living zone is a key feature of the updated weatherboard house and has french doors onto a wraparound deck.
A cubby house with a slide and a large powered shed, that could be used a home office or gym, give the backyard multi-generational appeal.
Mr Moorfoot said it was less than 300m to the front gate of Oberon Primary School and walking distance to Belmont’s High Street shopping precinct.
