A Geelong region house that claims a link to the first actor to play the fictional British spy James Bond has hit the market.

The unique brick house at 21 Shepherd Rd, Batesford, took inspiration from the Spanish manor previously of the original Bond, Sean Connery.

Golden Plains First National agent Owen Sharkey said when the original owner spotted Connery’s Marbella mansion, he quickly drew a sketch for himself.

It inspired the plans for the three-bedroom house that was one of the original houses in today’s Riverstone estate, overlooking the Moorabool River valley.

The house features an oversized main bedroom suite, a large kitchen and dining room with built-in wine cabinets and display cases, open-plan living and a large lounge beneath a cathedral ceiling.

It’s the second time the property has come up for sale, after Mr Sharkey handled the previous sale off-market after taking buyers through on a private inspection in 2016.

The 8100sq m property was one of the first before the Riverstone estate developed, west of Geelong.

The brick house has a very Spanish mission theme, with the large gabled roof and arches.

“The last time I sold it, I ended up taking the group through off market,” Mr Sharkey said.

“The previous owner he was a farmer and chose that specific location for the views.

“He saw Sean Connery’s house, drew it from the road and he put his heart and soul into it.”

Mr Sharkey said it was a lifestyle location and a different building from the big homes that typically occupy the estate now.

“This is just a nice parcel of land, the people who have bought it themselves, they are semi-retired, it’s almost a weekender.”

Mr Sharkey said the style was not everyone’s cup of tea, but he had a soft spot for it.

“I love the facade and the look of the house, I think it’s different. Being a former bricklayer, I just love the brickwork

“It’s something different especially the main living area there with the cathedral ceilings and the fireplace.”

Expressions of interest close on April 6. Price hopes are $1.05m to $1.15m.
