Asher Keddie’s Hesket home: buyers finally bag actor’s former retreat

It was second time lucky for the buyers of this Macedon Ranges pad, who’d eyed it off when it was listed by Asher Keddie and Vincent Fantauzzo in 2017 and have now finally sealed the deal.

849 Romsey Rd, Hesket has sold for $2.375 million.

A Macedon Ranges pad adored and transformed by actor Asher Keddie and her artist husband Vincent Fantauzzo has sold again.

The creative couple offloaded the barn-style Hesket house, on 43ha of land, for about $2.15 million in late 2017.

The people who bought 849 Romsey Rd from them have now moved it on for $2.375 million — to buyers who’d hoped to secure it last time it was on the market.

“They loved it the first time (when Keddie and Fantauzzo listed it), but it didn’t work out,” Keatings selling agent Sandi Barry-Mueller said of the buyers.

“This time, they’ve been fortunate enough to snap it up.”

Ms Barry-Mueller said the new owners, from the coast southwest of Melbourne, planned to move into the house.

They loved its location, quirky barn style, and the grounds’ rich volcanic soil and water supply via a spring-fed creek, a lake and two dams.

“Hesket is prestige,” Ms Barry-Mueller said.

“It has great soil and it’s on the northern slope of Mt Macedon, (making it) nice and sunny.”

Keddie, a Gold Logie winner and star of Offspring, and Fantauzzo, an award-winning portrait painter whose subjects have included Heath Ledger and Baz Luhrmann, bought the property after marrying in 2014.

They renovated the residence in Scandinavian style and divided their time between it and Melbourne, until their work commitments and having a young family made it harder for them to escape there.

When they listed the home, they said the “special property” had been a space for “creativity, inspiration and relaxation” where they’d enjoyed watching their family grow.

The living spaces and three bedrooms are all on the two-storey home’s top floor, maximising views of Hanging Rock, the Cobaw hills and Mt Macedon. They feature cathedral ceiling and recycled timber floors.

Ms Barry-Mueller said Keddie had kept horses on the property — and the lower level accordingly featured two stables plus utility, store and tack rooms.
