This Toorak home’s striking white-brick and green-copper facade doesn’t give away much about its chic contemporary interior.

But inside 234 Kooyong Road, clever glass placement between the spaced out “hit and miss” brickwork allows beams of natural light to filter through and create artful patterns.

A product of award-winning architect Kerstin Thompson, the Apartment House was designed to be an urban retreat hidden away from its neighbourhood.

Marshall White’s Justin Long said the home’s privacy made it ideal for empty nesters.

“The architectural merit of the home and its security have been a real highlight,” Mr Long said.

“It’s absolutely a one-off, with attention to detail at every turn. When you walk through you can really see the quality.”

A lush internal garden is the centrepiece of the home’s entryway.

Mr Long said the home’s floorplan was designed to include views of the garden, Gardiners Creek Valley, the Dandenong Ranges and beyond.

“There is a really expansive view which is what the current owners were particularly chasing,” he said.

The home’s main living areas and bedrooms are on one level upstairs, while the ground level features self-contained studio-style quarters.

“The top level is almost like its own penthouse apartment,” Mr Long said.

Polished concrete floors, American oak joinery and timber-lined ceilings add to the property’s high-end appeal.

The home also boasts its own lift, an open-air gym and a private garden terrace.
