Alice in Wonderland theme creates magical tearoom at Highton home
The scene is set for magical high teas at an unconventional suburban house full of surprises beyond its facade with a quirky Alice in Wonderland-themed space for enchanting entertaining.
You could be mistaken for thinking you’ve disappeared down a rabbit hole upon entering a Highton house with a whimsical Alice in Wonderland-inspired tearoom.
A sense of fun is alive and well inside the quirky Queens Park home that pays homage to Lewis Carroll’s classic tale with a wall mural depicting its well-known tea party scene.
Buxton agent Scott Roncon said the vendors of 9 Tuxen Court, Highton loved to host high teas for friends in the room under the watchful eye of the March Hare and the Hatter.

He said while it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the house’s creative decor had an unmistakeable charm.
“It has been a popular one,” Mr Roncon said.
“A lot of people are just going it’s in old Highton, it’s not a new build, it’s got views, it’s quirky.
“It doesn’t suit everyone, it’s not a new home with open-plan living, but this home is probably of the few homes I have seen that has heart to it.”
The two-storey house is on a 704sq m block with views over Queens Park and offers four bedrooms, three bathrooms and multiple living areas that link to a paved outdoor entertainment area and first floor balcony.
It’s listed for $770,000 to $810,000.
Mr Roncon said the high tea room sat alongside more convention features, including the adjoining kitchen/meals area, which comes with modern stone benchtops and stainless steel appliances.
But the creativity is strategically splashed around the fireplace in the loungeroom, on the red stairwell and on an old-world bedroom feature wall.
“It is quirky, but it works,” Mr Roncon said.
He said the court location and split-level backyard with a north-facing lawn and meandering pathway added to the appeal.
“You can walk on the path through the greenery and it feels like you are nowhere near Geelong but it’s right there,” he said.
