Weekend auctions provide some last-minute Christmas shopping opportunities, property style, for first-home buyers on Saturday.

Five properties are being offered this weekend, with three considered prime candidates for first-home buyers to snap up before the holidays.

The pick of the bunch is at 100 Apex Ave, Belmont, where Barry Plant, Highton agent Ray Rounds has welcomed 82 parties during the three-week campaign.

He said young buyers were providing the main interest in the brick veneer house a few hundred metres from Highton’s Bellaire Primary School.

The price guide of $440,000 to $460,000 reflects that buyers will need to work on the house once they take ownership.

“It’s such a good spot down at the Highton end of Belmont as I call it,” Mr Rounds said.

“It needs a bit of work around the home, it’s not bad. I’ve sold worse.

“The interest has been a lot of first-home buyers, and quite a few Melbourne buyers as well. There’s a few investors. It’s a good solid property.”

Mr McGuinness said buyers searching for original homes in the area need to have a long-term plan.

“You want to be going in with a five-year plan, get stuck into the renovation and get the enjoyment out of it.
