Man’s elaborate house inspection proposal revealed
A routine home inspection became an unforgettable moment when one buyer turn heads with an unusual marriage proposal.
A property development team has helped a Sydney man to stage a romantic proposal under the guise of a final inspection.
Peter and his fiance Cathie purchased at The Hills Carmel in Box Hill, a decision that came after initially looking at houses around Schofields, Box Hill and Gables.
It was Peter’s first time purchasing property and the developers allowed him to set up his proposal to Cathie in the new home.
“Since we are starting a new life together, I thought what better opportunity than to propose in our new house,” he said.

“I spoke to the management team at The Hills of Carmel, decided and came up with a rouse to get Cathie over here.
“We were about seven weeks into a 10 week settlement and told her we had to go back and check for final defects.”
Peter said prior to their arrival, the management team had the entire place cleaned top to bottom and helped him set up games and quizzes throughout the house that led to a final box with the engagement ring.

“When Cathie and I went to do our defect tour I did the whole proposal,” he said.
“As we walked up the step, I had music playing, each room had a question and a photo of us and at the end of the tour if she got all the answers correct she was able to unlock the final box that had the engagement ring.”
The quizzes were multiple choice with the answers being numbers and at the end of the house walk through Peter had created a ring box with a combination lock with the password being the numbers from the answers which made up the couple’s anniversary date.
Peter said they had stumbled upon the development and viewed three houses after hours, one ended up being the home they purchased.
“One of the stand out features when we looked around the area and the estate itself was the amenities and the shops,” he said.
“We saw the master plan and it was detailed we were seeing libraries, sporting fields, playgrounds for young children as we are planning to have kids.
“We have a dentist, a physio, medical practice – everything you can think of and need is within five minutes.”
