This year’s Married At First Sight “couples retreat”, a heritage-listed luxurious homestead in the Byron Bay hinterland, has gone up for sale.

This is the eight-bedroom “Hinterland House” where “Tori confronts Jack for flirting with Sarah” and “Eden reveals her shocking secret” in an episode of the popular Channel 9 show that screened in March.

The circa 1906 landmark home, built for a prominent northern rivers architectural family, is now owned by Brisbane-based hospitality entrepreneur Mitch Carter, who bought the 9.3ha property for $2.75m in a distressed sale in 2016.

He’s done extensive renovations to the homestead and grounds since, as well as obtaining a rare licence to hold events at the property for up to 150 people.

It’s now listed with a $15m price guide via sales agent Kim Jones, daughter of the late Sydney eastern suburbs icon Di Jones.

Jones, who sold Di Jones Real Estate three years ago, moved to Byron Bay and been involved a range of high-end sales including $37m for the Coopers Shoot home of Tom and Emma Lane of the Oroton fashion empire family last April, has just launched her own agency called Kim Jones + Co.

Back in the early 1990s, Di Jones had been a trailblazer with its all-female boutique office being among the first to style homes for sale and introduce innovative marketing techniques.

Kim, too, is planning to break new ground, with all-female “virtual offices” in Australia and internationally. “Covid changed things, making me realise I can sell property anywhere ... “I’ve got fire in my belly!” she says.

Jones is particularly excited about the listing of the MAFS retreat house, saying she already has interest at the price guide.
