JLo, Ben Affleck set for bitter $240m battle

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck could be in for a bitter battle over $240 million after their divorce was put in motion.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are set to square off in a bitter battle over assets after the couple called it quits after two years of marriage.

According to TMZ, Lopez has filed divorce papers in Los Angeles, with the entertainment website reporting the couple did not have a pre-nuptial agreement in place prior to marrying for the second time.

That could mean the pair could square off in a fight over around $240m in real estate assets.

In the 18 years between their first and second marriages JLo and Affleck acquired about $240m in property. Some of it was shared but a larger slice of the assets belonged to Lopez.

And some of that was liquidated into cash over the course of their second marriage and break up.

As the rumours of marital woes grew in the months leading up to their divorce confirmation, the couple publicly listed their Beverly Hills mega mansion for a hefty $US68 million ($A101 million).

Furthermore, Lopez finalised the sale of her New York City penthouse on her 55th birthday, on the same day Affleck purchased a mansion in Los Angeles for $US20.5m ($A31.3m).

The “Gone Girl” star bought the five-bedroom estate days after he and Lopez put their Beverly Hills property up for sale.

After calling off their first engagement in the early 2000s, Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in April 2021.

The couple eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022. They tied the knot for a second time a month later during a lavish ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia estate.

Following the nuptials and a long house hunt, they put down $60.8m (A$90m) for their marital mansion in May 2023.

They reportedly paid cash for the home which sits on six acres and includes a 15-car garage, 17 bedrooms and two dwellings including a caretaker house.

It also boasts an outdoor sports ‘complex’ complete with a basketball set-up, pickleball, a gym, a boxing ring, a bar, an infinity pool and sweeping views out over LA.

HOMES IN NEW YORK, MIAMI, LA AND THE HAMPTONS

Other homes JLo has been linked to included that penthouse in Madison Square Park in New York City, which she bought after her divorce from singer Marc Anthony.

Lopez and her ex-finance baseball star Alex Rodriguez bought a resort-style home in Miami in 2020 for $48m.

The home features an enormous pool and stunning views of the Miama city skyline.

JLo and A-Rod also had dibs on a $2m cottage in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Encino.

The three-bed home was bought as an investment when the couple were living in Miami.

While JLo has managed to keep some of her investments under wraps, she has also been linked to buying a $41.1m Bel Air mansion which boasts its own pub, a 30-seat cinema and a 100-seat amphitheatre which was at one time her main LA address.

The singer also has a very private getaway in The Hamptons with it’s own sauna, steam room, theatre, pool and playground that is said to be worth in the vicinity of $15m.
