Aussie icon Ita Buttrose has made a handsome profit on the inner-city pad she’d snapped up from mates less than two years ago.

The 82-year-old former ABC chair, who has recently given evidence in the high-profile Federal Court case brought against the public broadcaster by Antoinette Lattouf, had bought the level 18 two-bedroom apartment with city skyline views for $1.55m in April, 2023.

The vendors had been her long-time friends, Franco and Rita Napoli. She’d been renting the split-level unit from them for many years before deciding to buy it.

However, Buttrose, more recently a wheelchair user, listed it for sale with a $1.69m asking price last December.

Just available settlement records show it’s sold for $1,675,000, so a $15k discount.

Yet the sale price still outperforms the general Redfern market, with the median apartment price for two-bedders up just $76k (from $1,124,000 to $1.2m) over the same period, according to realestate.com.au.

Her profit comes down to $116k after considering the $4000 stamp duty she paid on the $1,555,000 purchase. She doesn’t look to have done any renos.

The settlement records show the buyers are Katie Ramstadius, a senior manager at PWC, and her husband Edward Rose.

The Buttrose’s apartment was listed with Florence Wong of Progress Real Estate, who last year sold the nearby Kepos St terrace owned by Lord Mayor Clover Moore, another Moore Park Gardens resident, for $4m.

Buttrose sold her house at Mittagong in the Southern Highlands for $1.4m in February, 2023.

She’s looking for a new home closer to her daughter, Kate McDonald, thought to live in Maroubra.

It’s only a few years back that Buttrose, AO, OBE, could be regularly seen walking her beloved Groodle, Cleo (now deceased) — named after the hugely popular women’s magazine she founded in 1972 — in nearby Moore Park.
