A billionaire fund manager’s incredible $14m beachside penthouse has just hit the rental market ... look what you get for a cool $6,500 per week.

The apartment is one of two penthouses in the recently completed $75m upgrade of a high-rise building at 20 Illawong Ave, Tamarama, which took five years to complete.

This level-eight penthouse was bought by the fund manager Will Vicars, who paid $14m for it three months ago, an impressive addition to his incredible portfolio of beachside real estate that’s estimated to be worth $150m.

It’s understood the Sotheby’s agents have already had a few offers from would-be tenants on the huge 400sqm space, which comprises 270sqm internally and 130sqm of terraces.

There are five terraces in total, including one with an Italian made spa plunge pool.

The building is the only high-rise in Tamarama and is the suburb’s highest vantage point, so there are views of the water and coast from almost every room.

With luxuriously minimalist architecture by award-winning architects and interiors by Pure, the penthouse presents a unique Sydney experience to an international standard.

The penthouse features the finest European designers including Rimadesio, Aclinea, Antonio Lupi, Roda, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba.
There are four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a powder room, two living rooms, a media room and three parking spaces.

If penthouse life isn’t for you, the completion of the upgrade to the building has seen a range of other less pricey offerings hit the rental market, with two-bedders ranging from $1800 per week to $2400 per week.

And if you want to get off the rental treadmill completely, you could simply by the other penthouse that’s still for sale for $14m via Michael Pallier of Sotheby’s.

Keep an eye out for a slightly more affordable option hitting the market next week via Simon Exleton of Pillinger — a 70sqm one-bedder on level six for a cool $2.4m.

Note: An earlier version of this story said the original building was designed by Harry Seidler. The iconic architect’s daughter, Polly, advises that although her father produced concept plans for the site in the 1950s, when the developer went into liquidation, the new owner, Renee Rivkin’s developer father, Walter, created a building that didn’t resemble those plans.
