Inside Sydney home Princess Mary stayed in when visiting as a child
A home fit for Australia’s beloved princess has undergone a stunning transformation since Mary stayed there as a child.
After her mother-in-law announced her abdication on New Year’s Eve, Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary will become Australia’s first queen.
Mary Elizabeth Donaldson’s “real life fairytale” story has always been a popular one with Australians.
Having grown up in Tasmania, Princess Mary met Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik in a Sydney pub during the 2000 Olympics and the pair were married in 2004. The couple have four children – Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
A home fit for a princess was sold in Sydney’s affluent Rose Bay area in 2022 for almost double its previous sale price.
Princess Mary would stay at 27 Ebsworth Rd when visiting Sydney as a child.
Her father, who was in the navy, often needed a place to stay when he visited Sydney.
The “blue ribbon” property, known for its pristine condition, wasn’t always a luxury home.
Photos of the property for sale on May 25, 2011, show a modest single-storey house, with no backyard pool, selling for $1,810,000.
The property was renovated by the new owners, Iljko Miocevic and his wife Louisa.
“We know from the neighbours in the street, the previous owner to us was in the navy, and Princess Mary’s father was in the navy as well,” Mr Miocevic said.
“In times when he didn’t have anywhere for the girls to stay, she would stay here.”
The property was back on the market six years later, selling for $3,975,000 in February 2017.
