Inside jaw-dropping property empire Mariah Carey built with Christmas fortune
Mariah Carey has built a $540 million fortune largely from one Christmas song that earns her millions annually, funding an empire of jaw-dropping luxury homes.
She is one of the highest-selling artists of all time and has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide.
Mariah Carey has amassed a staggering fortune of $US350 million ($A540 million).
A huge chunk of the singer’s net worth stems from being the Queen of Christmas. Her holiday classic All I Want for Christmas Is You keeps climbing the charts every year.
Since its release in 1994, the hit jingle made the Grammy-winner $US60 million ($A92 million) in royalties, according to Forbes.
Based on calculations from The Economist, Carey earns around $US2.5 million ($A3.8 million) per year from the song while The New York Post estimated the figure to be even higher at $US3 million ($A4.6 million).
This doesn’t include how much the diva makes from her holiday-themed merchandise, concerts, specials, book, and animated film tied to the festive track.
Last year, All I Want for Christmas Is You became the first holiday song to reach 2 billion streams on Spotify.
Thanks to her music career, the Love Takes Time hit maker has built an impressive property collection.

Mariah Carey buys Atlanta mansion where The Rock destroyed front gate
From a lavish New York penthouse to a vacation property in the Bahamas, here’s a look at some of the jaw dropping homes owned by the musician.
New York penthouse
One of Carey’s most dazzling and well known properties is her Tribeca penthouse in New York.
Carey bought the home in the late nineties after her divorce with Sony Music Entertainment chief executive, Tommy Mottola.
The star reportedly bought the $US5.5 million ($A8.5 million) duplex penthouse, along with the $US3.5 million ($A5.4 million) apartment below.
The home has flashy features like a grand-foyer, limestone and bronze-plated floors as well as sweeping curtains.
It comes with a dream wardrobe and a movie theatre room with an aquarium, which designer for the home Mario Buetta, says gives a feeling of a movie theatre under the sea.
The pop icon’s Tribeca penthouse is said to be now worth between $US30 and $US35 million ($A46 and $54 million).
French-inspired $136.7 million chateau
With her glamorous clothes and private jet, Mariah Carey does not do understated, and from the looks of this property her homes are no exception.
Carey shared this French-themed estate in Los Angeles with her second husband, Nick Cannon.
Known as ‘Fleur de Lys’ the grand property features 12 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, a 50-seat movie theatre, ballroom, running track, gym, tennis court, pool and a pool house.
The couple lived here until it was sold in 2014 for $US88.3million ($A136.7 million).
Bahamas retreat
Being one of the most wealthy pop stars in Hollywood, it’s only logical that the star owned a luxury escape in the sunny Bahamas.
The property is located on Windermere Island and boasts an infinity pool overlooking the ocean.
Mariah owned the property with Nick Cannon, but listed it for sale first in 2012, and again in 2015 for $US5.5 million ($A8.5 million).
Shared Bel-Air mansion
The former couple, who are parents to 14-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, shared more than two houses when they were married.
As well as their French-like estate and Bahamas retreat, Cannon and Carey owned a second home in Los Angeles.
The house features eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms and is 1068 sqm in size.
It sold in 2015 for $US9 million ($A13.9 million).
Mariah and Packer’s house in Kardashian neighbourhood
After separating from Nick Cannon, Mariah coupled up with Aussie billionaire James Packer and they shared a house in California.
The home is located in Calabasas, the estate that’s renowned for being Kardashian territory, and is Mediterranean in style.
It features six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a pool and a basketball court.
The couple have since split, but Carey was fighting for Packer to buy her an LA mansion as part of their settlement, TMZ reports.
She might not have gotten the LA mansion, but Carey did keep Packer’s engagement ring after the split.
She reportedly sold it for as much as AUD $4 million in a bid to emotionally move on from the busted relationship.
Atlanta mansion
In 2023, the music star offloaded her “sweet, sweet fantasy” Atlanta house for $3.92 million ($A6 million).
Carey sold the Georgia property at a loss of $US1.73 million ($A2.6 million) in just 18 months after buying it for $US5.65 million ($A8.7 million).
The nine-bedroom mansion features a heated pool, a pool house, an entertainment pavilion, a three-car garage, tennis courts and a “charming series of gardens,” the New York Post reports.
The main house’s interior includes a workout room with a mirror wall, a home theatre, a guest suite, a fireplace-equipped living room and, on the third floor, a small recording booth.
The primary suite also boasts a fireplace, as well as a walk-in closet, an ensuite bath and a dressing room.
