George Michael’s Sydney hideaway sells for new Palm Beach oceanfront record
The luxury beachside hideaway late pop superstar George Michael frequented during visits to Australia has sold for a massive sum.
Wham! The Palm Beach house associated with the late George Michael has promptly sold for a new oceanfront record although it didn’t reach its advertised guide of $15m.
The five-bedroom pavilion-style home didn’t take long to trade either — only 37 days and it sold to locals as a permanent home.
The late British singer and songwriter, behind such hits as Careless Whisper, Faith and Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, made a whirlwind visit to Sydney in 2010 while on tour in Australia and was charmed by the clifffront property at 333 Whale Beach Rd.

Records show it traded for $5.8m in June 2020 and locals all know the property as George Michael’s house.
Agents at the time were coy about the star’s relationship to the house. He certainly stayed longer in Sydney than he had planned and had a whale of a time at the property. But it is probable he just rented it rather than purchased.
B.J. Edwards, of LJ Hooker Palm Beach, said there were three buyers after the house and they loved the fact that every room had an ocean view.
The house now holds the record for an oceanfront, previously set at $12m for 339 Whale Beach Rd which traded in 2021

Palm Beach is home to some of the most expensive real estate in Sydney. The record, according to CoreLogic, is $27.5m for a house on the saddle of the suburb with views to both Pittwater and the Pacific set last year.
There have been $27m sales in Iluka Rd, on Snapperman’s Beach too but some of the suburb’s most valuable real estate has yet to trade. A house on Ocean Rd came to market late last year with $40m expectations but hasn’t sold.
Former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and her husband Jake Wall have reportedly sold their Whale Beach clifftop home, even before they have finished building it, for a sum close to $30m.
The star died in 2016 of heart failure aged only 53 after battling drugs and alcohol.
The designer home has been a popular summer rental, commanding $2000 a night.
Agent David Edwards, of LJ Hooker Palm Beach, said the five-bedroom luxury home with plunge pool has the best view up the coast at Palm Beach he had seen.
It is on more than 600sqm of land on the point at Little Head, between Whale Beach and Palm Beach and Utz Sanby designed the villa in 1990 to capitalize on the north-east aspect and 180-degree views to the Central Coast.
