The boss of Chemist Warehouse has snapped up a Bronte beachfront residence quietly for $25m and is keeping the Bellevue Hill mansion he bought for $23.5m a few years ago.

Tony Bassaly, the managing partner of the pharmaceutical giant, and his wife, Angela, have bought the landmark residence at 12 Bronte Marine Drive, once owned by the F45 co-founder Rob Deutsch.

Deutsch sold up in 2022 for $17.7m to the founder of cosmetic proceedures firm Cosmos Clinics, Joseph Ajaka, who sold it for $22.65m in July, 2023 to the current vendor, 42-year-old tech investor Peter Crown and his wife, Vanessa.

The Crowns have perhaps opted to focus on the huge 1300 hectare property they bought from Hume Coal for close to $100m in 2021.

Interestingly, the title on the Marine Drive property shows a range of caveats by Bridge St Capital, Patriot Equity and hard asset investment specialists Merricks Capital Holdings.

It’s understood the $25m sale was negotiated by Elliott Placks and Ashley Bierman of Ray White Double Bay, who sold it last time round.

Both agents have been contacted for comment, but are yet to return calls.

The Bronte Marine Drive property is close by the Bayview St, Bronte property that the Bassalys sold for $16m in 2021.

Will home prices continue to grow in 2025?

They’re certainly shrewd property buyers and sellers, since that 350sqm property, next door to the former home of the late actor Heath Ledger, set a new per-square-metre record at the time.

And the Victoria Rd, Bellevue Hill “architectural mansion” — with putting green, basketball court, pool, gym and sauna — would be worth considerably more than the $23.5m they bought it for in May, 2021.

It’s not clear if the couple intend to use the three-level Bronte property as their beachhouse or on-sell it.

With a 14m frontage, it offers uninterrupted grandstand views of Bronte Beach and the Pacific Ocean.

Effortless entertaining is at the forefront of the design, with a recreational lower level complete with a cocktail bar, cinema and walk-in wine cellar.

There’s a resort-like north-facing garden with pavilion and mineral pool, entertainment pavilion and outdoor kitchen.
