A charming Coburg home has captivated buyers selling for over $1m. Find out what’s in store for its ecstatic owners.

Atherton: The charming period home captured the hearts of bidders selling under the hammer for $1.28m.

A charming period home in Coburg has sold for $1.28m.

The three-bedroom, one-bathroom home at 91 Munro St, Coburg was purchased in 2010 by Michael Donato and Rosalee Firth for just $784,000.

The auction opened with a vendor bid of $1.1m and featured three eager bidders. Ray White Coburg’s Raphael Calik-Houston said an initial $1m offer was swiftly turned down by the auctioneer.

“It was a pretty strong auction,” said Mr Calik-Houston.

“The new buyers are ecstatic with their new purchase.”

Vendor Rosalee Firth shared heartfelt memories of the home, named ‘Atherton.’

The beautifully updated kitchen that wowed potential buyers during inspections.

“It’s got a gorgeous frontage with bay windows, the little turret window at the front, and the circular window with the bird in it - they’re warm in winter and cool in summer,” Ms Firth said.

“We’ve planted fruit trees like apricots and apple trees and had really lovely family times here.”

The Firth’s maintained the original period charm of the home while updating it throughout their years there.

“We decorated and updated the kitchen, changed the 70s bathroom, and put in new floors. “

Ms Firth said although she loves the home, it’s time to move on.

“We’ve been looking for a new home for over a year and a half,” she said.

Although I love my home and garden - the only way we could afford a bigger house was to move to the country.” Now, with plans to relocate to Seymour and hopes to travel extensively, Ms Firth is looking forward.

The unique charm of the home was one of the reason’s why the Firth’s were drawn to the home when they first purchased it.

“We walked into a house in Seymour and made an offer that day,” the vendor said.

“Now we’ve sold the home we're ecstatic - one reason for selling is to travel to Europe for an extended time.”

“I think Coburg has an amazing community - people are friendly and helpful; if you need something, someone will pop up to help.”

Outside the new buyers will be treated to fruit trees in the lush garden planted by the current owners for “family enjoyment”.

Spacious and inviting living areas await the lucky new buyers.

Coburg didn’t have a great reputation 20 years ago, but now it’s just a really great community.”

The couple said their excitement is immense as the theyanticipate new adventures.

“My Italian husband wants to go back to Italy, specifically Sicily, which we both love,” Ms Firth said.

“I’ve also been to Uzbekistan and would love to explore more of that region.”

As they bid farewell to ‘Atherton’, they leave behind a legacy of warmth and charm for the new owners, hoping they too will find joy in this beautiful piece of Coburg history and the enduring appeal of the Coburg area.
