Just before heading off to the Olympic torch relay, Channel 9 CEO Mike Sneesby secured tenants for his $650 a week Elizabeth Bay investment apartment that he bought for $367,000 back in 2002.

There had been a $600 a week asking rental last July.

The one-bedroom, one-bathroom Onslow Ave space had been rented out at $550 a week amid the 2020 pandemic downturn, less than the $600 secured in 2018.

A key feature of the home is the original art deco fireplace.

“Set in the stylish Huntingdon Building, this 1 bedroom apartment is a highly enviable home on sought-after Onslow Avenue,” the marketing for the home read.

“Recently renovated throughout with an abundance of natural light and set in a prestigious waterside locale and conveniently located close to schools, shops and local eateries.

“A short walk to the buzzing eateries and cafes of Macleay Street and Greenknowe Ave, plus the charming Arthur McElhone Reserve and harbourside Beare Park.”

Sneesby is under fire from his own staff with Nine Newspaper journalists on strike during the opening games of the Paris Olympics amid a bitter pay rise dispute.

“We’re here to call on Mike Sneesby, the Nine CEO, and all senior executives at Nine, to forego their financial bonuses for the financial year just gone, that haven’t been paid yet, as well as this financial year, and to reinvest that back into the company to save jobs,” Journalist Broede Carmody, who is also a union delegate, said in a video published to journalist’s union MEAA’s social channels.

The Nine CEO also raised eyebrows earlier this week when he ran with the Olympic torch in the lead up to the 2024 Games.
