Reality TV star Darryn Lyons’ weird unit up for $3500 per week rent

The unusual pad of flamboyant celebrity photographer and reality TV star Darryn Lyons has hit the market asking $3500 per week rent. But his interior stylings may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The glamorous Sydney pad of flamboyant celebrity photographer and former Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons has hit the rental market.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with car spot in the Harry Seidler-designed tower Horizon at 1502/184 Forbes St, Darlinghurst is listed with an asking rent of $3500 per week.

Celebrity Big Brother contestant Lyons, whose Instagram account shows him currently living the good life in St Tropez on the French Rivera, bought the Darlo pad off the plan in 1998 for $604,000.

There’s also a reel taken in late May showing an incredible sunset behind the city skyline and icons from his Horizon balcony.

The Horizon apartment comes fully furnished.

The marble bathrooms are particularly glamorous.

As the Tas Realty realestate.com.au ad advises, the internal fit-out of the apartment is “one of a kind” that “screams style and personality”.

The apartment, which comes fully furnished, is decked out in pink, which looks to be Lyons’s favourite colour.

It’s not hard to imagine the English novelist Barbara Cartland, who was also fond of pink, relaxing on the couches.

The marble bedrooms and particularly the perspex bath have a “Playboy Mansion” feel.

Lyons, who owns a range of properties including Geelong’s Elephant and Castle pub and a waterfront home there, sold a Sydney investment unit in the Jackson Landing development at Pyrmont for $2,391,800, triple what he bought it for in 2001.

There’s even pink toilet paper!

He’s also rented out the Horizon apartment periodically, seeking $850 per week in 2010, $1,150 in 2020 and 2022, and now $3,500.

Lyons, 58, was Mayor of Geelong from 2013 to 2016 and as a celebrity photographer he gained considerable attention when his company, Big Pictures, sold a photograph to News of World that was used to support a claim that football star David Beckham was having an affair with his personal assistant Rebecca Loos.

And on the night of the fatal car crash involving Princess Diana in 1997, Big Pictures received photos of Diana’s final moments which have never been published. Lyons has said he would never sell them.
