IT HAS three levels, five bathrooms and uninterrupted views over Sydney Harbour. Welcome to Australia’s most expensive apartment.

Located in the middle of Sydney in The Rocks, the Stamford Residences penthouse has sold for a record-breaking $16.2 million — the highest price paid for any Australian apartment this year.

Listed a year ago with a $15 million price-tag, the property sold to a buyer from China — but no agent has taken credit for closing the staggering deal due to strict confidentiality agreements.

Media reports suggest the buyer is listed as Zhang Zetian — the same name of a Chinese internet sensation and the girlfriend of billionaire entrepreneur Liu Qiangdong.

While Qiangdong is currently renting a waterfront mansion in Vaucluse, in Sydney’s east, it’s not clear whether they are officially the buyers.
