The luxury Eastern Suburbs home of a troubled multi-millionaire relative of Ita Buttrose has sold for around $10m.

The exclusive Vaucluse mansion of Andrew Spira and his estranged partner Julia Maguire has been snapped up by an eager buyer less than a month after it was brought to market by Paul Biller of Biller Property with a price guide of $9m.

Biller remained tight-lipped Thursday over the sale of the five-bedroom residence that boasts generous grounds and harbour views.

“It was a strong campaign and sold well above the guide,” was all he would comment.

The Village Lower Rd home sits on a steep hill just behind the recently sold abode of Roxy Jacenko and may have interested those who missed out on the now former home of the Singapore-bound entrepreneur.

It’s understood that The Capital Network chief Maguire, 40, and her former fiance, 24-year-old Spira are separating after seven years and buying 11 properties together.

Though only their family home has been up for sale.

Spira, who lives in Bondi Beach, is the son of socialite Lizzie Buttrose – the niece of ABC chairman Ita Buttrose – and is the founder and chief of mega business loan broker Pineapple Funding.

Late last month, Spira was remanded in custody over a string of fraud, firearms and drug offences in Darwin after being granted bail in NSW just a fortnight before, despite offering his multimillion dollar empire as surety and telling the judge he was “at high risk of death” if he was sent to prison in the Territory.

Spira subsequently made the shock allegation in a Darwin court that his mother had introduced him to methamphetamines at age 14.

His mother has denied knowing anything about her son’s ice allegation.

Spira appeared in Sutherland Court earlier last month for allegedly attempting to use a fake passport and false name to travel overseas for a business deal.

The court heard he’d thought an “airline was out to get him”.

In an exclusive interview with the Wentworth Courier, given when listing the home. Maguire said they’d purchased the residence she lovingly calls “The Vaucluse Country Club” from wellness warrior James Duigan and his wife, Christiane, who was a school friend of Maguire in Adelaide.

Sales agent Paul Biller said after a strong campaign, the home had sold ‘well above the $9m guide.

Maguire confirmed that a Spanish Mission apartment block at 72 Elizabeth Bay Rd, Elizabeth Bay, that was purchased for $3.41m — $310,000 above reserve — at auction in December, 2020, would be retained.

According to PropTrack, the median house price in Vaucluse is $8.37m, down 1 per cent over the past 12 months, via 61 sales.
