Music legend’s bizarre desert ‘Love Shack’
B-52s icon Kate Pierson has put up her bizarre desert Airbnb for sale.
“Kate’s Lazy Desert”, a five-acre property about a three-hour drive east of Los Angeles, is owned by the Love Shack singer Kate Pierson and her artist wife Monica Nation.
And it could be all yours.
On Botkin Rd, Landers, the acreage includes six retro Airstream trailers that have been fully kitted out, set against a desert backdrop and uninterrupted mountain views.
Each of the vintage trailers features “psychedelic interiors”, with bright colours and whimsical patterns and wallpapers.

Pierson is a singer-songwriter and founding member of the B-52s, an American new wave band formed in 1976 that went on to land hits such as Rock Lobster, Summer of Love and Private Idaho.

The B52s were known for their “thrift shop aesthetic”, a look that is echoed throughout each of the camper vans.
One trailer features retro green and brown stripes on the ceiling while another has groovy burnt orange splotches covering the walls. Another has the cover and inside pages from an old Rolling Stones magazine featuring the B52s pinned up on the walls. The trailers also include kitchens, lounge areas, beds and bathrooms.

The listing invites buyers to own a piece of “rock and roll history”, add their own personal touch and “revive” the trailers.
It states the property has a “Conditional Use Permit”, which allows it to be operated as a motel, trailer park or campground. It suggests transforming the property into a “thriving Airbnb” business or a private desert oasis.
“This property is perfect for shared ownership, weekend getaways under blanketed stars, cosmic vibing, extraterrestrial communicating or income flow through strategic Airbnb rentals.”

“Nestled near Joshua Tree, Pappy and Harriets, the Integratron, and the famous La Copine restaurant, this property boasts breathtaking mountain views and endless starry skies,” the listing says.
There is also a 37 sqm homestead cabin which “offers on-site management or guest use” as well as a shed for additional storage.
The airstream retreat is just one in a number of “Kate’s Lazy” properties currently and previously owned by the couple.
In 2021 they listed “Kate’s Lazy Meadow”, a motel in the Catskills near Woodstock, New York, which came on the market with $USD2.2 million hopes.
The couple also own “Kate’s Lazy Cabin”, a 1930s cabin in Lake Hill, New York and “Kate’s Lazy Cape”, a vacation home in Truro, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
The airstream retreat is listed for $USD452,000, or just under $AUD700,000.
Along with singing and song writing, Pierson also plays the guitar, bass and keyboard instruments.
The B52s reached their height of popularity in the 1980s and ‘90s and embarked on their farewell tour in 2023 before taking on a Las Vegas residency in late-2023.
