Broncos star recruit Ben Hunt’s next big property move
The star Broncos recruit’s highly anticipated shift back to the Sunshine State could ruffle feathers at Red Hill.
Star Broncos recruit Ben Hunt is eyeing the Glitter Strip for his next multimillion-dollar property move after a highly anticipated return to the Brisbane club.
But the shift could raise eyebrows at Red Hill, coming amid internal concerns over players living outside the city limits.
Star playmakers Reece Walsh and Patrick Carrigan both purchased homes on the Gold Coast earlier this year, with the Broncos hierarchy reportedly weighing in on the impact of geographic fragmentation on team “connectivity”.

Speculation is rife Hunt and his family are scouting for a dream home after the 34-year-old halfback re-joined the Broncos, where he made his NRL debut, playing 187 games between 2009 and 2017 before departing for the Dragons.
Hunt’s nutritionist wife Bridget recently sought real estate agent recommendations on social media for properties around the southern Gold Coast hotspots of Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach, where a typical house costs $1,377,500 and $1.756m respectively.
The couple retains a four-bedroom house built in Bridgeman Downs north of Brisbane in 2014, and dropped $2.7m on a Bangalow property in northern NSW in May.

Hitting the high notes on the Coast
Buyers’ agent and former NRL player Matt Srama said the Hunts have been renting on the southern Gold Coast with the intention of enrolling their two young children in a local school.
“Ben got in touch to try and set down some roots for his family on the Gold Coast,” said Mr Srama.
“They are happy to make the drive to Brisbane to be able to live the lifestyle here.
“It’s becoming super common for professional athletes and people from the entertainment industry to put lifestyle first in deciding where to live, and that is a really exciting decision for Ben and his family.”
But with Brisbane realigning their high-performance program under new coach Michael Maguire, club staff last month flagged the challenges of players commuting long distances from the Coast.
Mr Srama helped 21-year-old Walsh secure a $1.88m northern Gold Coast acreage, while Carrigan dropped $1.6m on a retro-style home in Burleigh Waters.
“My take on it is the happier you are off the field, the better you perform on the field, and when you compare the commute from the Gold Coast to Brisbane to cities such as Sydney, where a lot of my former teammates and friends used to travel 90 minutes to get to training, really the 45 minutes to an hour drive isn’t much,” he said.
“And who can blame them, when they get to come home to the beach and a surf after training?”
