Brittany Higgins is set to take a significant hit on an investment she made, in the wake of her multimillion-dollar payout from the Federal Government.

Higgins and her husband David Sharaz have opted to sell a home they bought in France, around a year after Higgins was awarded $2.4m in compensation over her alleged rape by former colleague Bruce Lehrmann in Parliament House in 2019.

The couple bought a three-bedroom two-level villa in southern France around 100km east of Bordeaux, a famous winegrowing region in the southwest of the country just last year.

The home is situated on a hillside with a pool, lake and local views.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the listing from sales agency Agency Eleonor says the home is “10 minutes north of Bergerac, with beautiful views of a village in the countryside”.

The couple are selling the home in order to meet the costs of legal action brought against Higgins and Sharaz by Senator Linda Reynolds, who is suing the pair for defamation.

A Judgement in that case is expected in the New Year.

The home is being sold partly furnished and it’s asking price has been cut by around $85,000.

After struggling to sell since being brought to market in September the asking price has fallen from around €420,000 ($682,000) to around €367,500 ($596,500).

Higgins, who has just turned 30, is planning to return home to Australia to start a family with Sharaz, as she posted on social media to celebrate the milestone.
