After being passed in at auction, one neighbouring family was able to snag the home they’d been admiring for years.

A neighbouring family was able to buy the home of their dreams for a record price, after watching it get passed in at a Saturday auction.

The first morning of February saw auctions all across Brisbane; including one for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom Queenslander at 39 Mcgregor St, Clayfield.

Ray White Bulimba agent Robyn Hoare said its owners had lived in the property for 43 years, having raised their four sons there.

“They planted a tree for every child,” she said, with the trees having grown tall over the decades of their residence.

Three registered bidders attended the auction for the home on the 810 sqm corner block.

The starting bid was $2.5 million, already well over the suburb median of $1.835 million.

Several bids saw the price rise up to $3 million, before the home passed in for the day.

The home’s previous vendors had lived in the area for more than 40 years.

Ms Hoare called the vendors’ neighbour soon after, and negotiations quickly began.

“I knew he had interest in the property,” she said. “He’s admired the home for years.”

The property’s two storey set-up and short distance from Kalinga Park made it a valuable home, and negotiations went on throughout the day to find the right price.

Finally, the home sold to its new buyers for $3.15 million.

A neighbouring family who’d admired the home from afar was finally able to claim it for themselves.

Ms Hoare said the sale was a suburb record for a Queenslander on such a block.

With the neighbouring family moving in, Ms Hoare said its previous vendors were happy they could now relocate and downsize.

“They were ecstatic with the sale to allow them to move on to bigger and better things,” she said. “It’s great to see a beautiful big home passed on to another family.”
