A dream home designed for champion footballer Israel Folau north of Brisbane has sold for nearly double the record sale price in the sleepy, seaside suburb.

The jawdropping property known as ‘Horizon’ is still under construction at 102 Prince Edward Parade in Scarborough, but that hasn’t stopped a local buyer paying $10.5m for it.

Phillip Rand of WHITEFOX Real Estate Brisbane, who negotiated the sale said the buyer had driven past the property for years and only lived five minutes away.

The home was initially designed by award-winning builder/developer, Graya, for Folau and his wife, Maria, to be built on the beachfront block they purchased for $4.25m in 2022.

But the Folaus changed their minds and sold the property at a small loss for $4.2m in 2023 to the owner of the neighbouring property, local developer Lindsay Birley — the father of social media influencer, Shaun Birley.

‘Horizon’ will have five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a four-car garage, along with a gym, pool, wine cellar, two lawn areas, and direct beach access.

Construction is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2025.

The previous record for a single house in Scarborough was set by the sale of a beachfront property down the road at 120 Prince Edward Parade, which sold for $5.85m in January this year.

Mr Rand said it was “an incredible sale for the area”.

“I think people are seeing the value in other lifestyle destinations — waterfront properties on large blocks, and this area is a genuine alternative to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast,” he said.

“People are also seeing value, and are prepared to pay a premium for, one-off, newly-built properties.”

WHITEFOX established its first Queensland office in Brisbane earlier this year, followed by the Gold Coast.

Mr Rand said the brand would be launching a number of design-led projects in the first quarter of next year, collaborating with a number of developers, including Graya.

“People have trust and see value in design-led, quality buildings by good developers with good track records and the ability to deliver.”
