The dream dilemma saw the winner of the St John Christmas Home Lottery choose to take a $4.5m cash offer instead, thanks to ticket HL24059802 – passing up $500,000 more in personal worth given the home packages were each $5m.
Real estate agent Sam Guo of Kollosche Broadbeach on the Gold Coast now has the stunning five bedroom Gold Coast house that the winner passed up on ready to go to auction this Saturday March 15 – a week after it originally planned thanks to cyclone Alfred impacting Queensland last weekend.

Payne Haas’ year: New coach, new bub, new house
“It was only last year we sold it to the charity lottery company. Apparently, some lucky winner won the lottery but decided to take the cash rather than a house.”
Mr Guo said among those interested in the property was a young family that considered building a new house but decided against it given the construction crisis.
“They were quite interested. They were going to build a house, but they decided not to go ahead. The building process is quite stressful. They say they will come to auction.”
He said the home had withstood the cyclonic conditions of Alfred well, with the only tidying up required in the garden and pool generally due to leaves being blown off trees.

Mr Guo, whose own Gold Coast home was yet to receive power mid week after the storm took down a power line, listed the property with Julia Guo, describing it as being close to The Southport School – an elite boys’ school which has boarding and day scholars.
“The home’s crowning glory is a stylish rooftop terrace, where you can host family and friends against a dazzling water, city skyline and hinterland backdrop. Further encouraging you to entertain alfresco is the vast patio, which looks out beyond the swimming pool and lush rear lawn to the calm waterway.”
The property at 31 Korong Street, Southport, has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a double garage on a 516sq m block with the auction set for 10am Saturday March 15.
The St John Christmas Lottery had put the home up as part of a $5M grand prize option on the Gold Coast describing it as a “breathtaking luxury home right on the water’s edge” with a 429sq m floorplan, waterside, poolside and rooftop terrace entertaining area. The prize included $1m cash and a $339,000 Mercedes-Benz GLS63 and was drawn a week before Christmas.
The other prizes – which all included $1m cash and a luxury vehicle – were a multi-level two bedroom dual living apartment at The Rocks in Sydney, a four bedroom four storey townhouse with internal elevator at Collins Wharf in Melbourne, and a three-bedroom house with solar-heated magnesium mineral swimming pool in Adelaide.
