The childhood home where Boom Crash Opera lead singer and Aussie music icon Dale Ryder rehearsed his first concerts is ready to rock Pascoe Vale South’s property market.

Ryder helped found the band in 1985 and played alongside Richard Pleasance, Peter Farnan, Peter Maslen, Ian Tilley and John Favaro over the years as the group scored top 20 hits with Great Wall, Onion Skin and Gimme.

Popular song Dancing in the Storm featured in 1990 Australian comedy flick The Big Steal.
But Ryder’s career got started in the northern suburb’s of Melbourne, rehearsing in the garage of the 617 Bell St home his family moved into after migrating from India.
“I lived here since I was 14 until about 18 or 19, and then I’d leave and run out of money and keep coming back,” Ryder said.
“This house has lots of great memories. This house has got a great vibe; lots of great songs were written here.”
The first songs were played as he rehearsed with a cover band in his garage, often with locals stopping by to watch, before being picked up for a heavy metal group in the area and eventually helping to form Boom Crash Opera.
With up to 12 family members staying in the home at various stages, the musician and a sibling shared a bedroom that’s today been described by the agent selling the house as a “small study”.

McGrath Coburg/Brunswick principal Michael Chan said while meeting one of his musical heroes had been amazing, he’d been thrilled when a chance to have a jam with Ryder in the back yard had come up.
“It was unbelievable,” Mr Chan said. “He’s someone I grew up listening to and got to a few of his concerts and to have a jam with him, and all pretty impromptu, was really fantastic.”
A video of the moment also shows that despite a location on busy Bell St the home is surprisingly calm and quiet.
“There’s probably a little bit of a discount factor (to the price) because it’s on Bell St, but sitting on the back deck it felt like we could have been at Byron Bay,” Mr Chan said.
The four-bedroom house on a 595sq m allotment has an $800,000-$880,000 asking price, with the next owner likely to make some updates or develop the property.
Multiple living areas, a bungalow out the back and a workshop all add to the appeal of the home located in the zone for popular Strathmore Secondary College.
The house at 617 Bell St, Pascoe Vale South, goes to auction at 11am on July 29.
