Bill Murray’s old New York home that once housed one of Hollywood’s most famous movie souvenirs has hit the market for a cool $5.5m.

These stunning properties do not come cheap

Superstar actor Bill Murray’s former New York estate, which once contained the famous fire pole from “Ghostbusters,” is back on the market for US$3.69 million (A$5.5 million).

The Yellow House, as it’s known, was built in the 1980s by Murray and his then-wife, Corcoran broker Mickey Murray, on the site of a 19th-century barn, according to the New York Post.

The home has since been reimagined, rebuilt and expanded upon.

Architecture firm Shope Reno Wharton incorporated elements of the original structure, known as the Yellow Barn, into the new home, which was completed in 1986. It was renovated again in 2021.

The property, at 19 and 28 Ludlow Lane, is in the secret celebrity enclave of Snedens Landing, 18km north of the George Washington Bridge, in the Rockland County hamlet of Palisades.

Comprised of just 100 homes, the area is sometimes known as “Hollywood on the Hudson.”

The Murrays spent US$305,000 in 1985 to call it their own.

It later sold to the actor Didi Conn in 1995 for US$1.2 million.

The current owners bought the estate from Conn, who’s best known for her role in “Grease” playing Frenchie, along with her husband, the Oscar-winning composer David Shire.

The Colonial-style residence comes with a winding drive. At 5,177 square feet, the five-bedroom, 4.5 bathroom dwelling sits on 3.92 acres.

The property also includes a freestanding two-car garage with an office/studio above.

The home is anchored by a living room with 15-foot-high ceilings, a wood burning fireplace and an office nook with a built-in day bed, along with a formal dining room.

A large chef’s kitchen located “in the footprint” of the Yellow Barn features an original 19th-century fireplace, while a laundry room and guest/staff bedroom is located off the kitchen. The main floor features a primary bedroom suite.

Central stairs, lit from a cupola above, lead to a second main bedroom suite with high ceilings, two walk-in closets and a full bath — as well as two other bedrooms with a shared bath.

Back on the main floor, French doors open to a wraparound porch. Outside, there’s a large lawn and a treehouse.
