Best homes: Stunning beach home tops five of the week’s best Queensland properties for sale

A world-famous beach house by the Great Barrier Reef is available to buy for more than $8 million. See five of Queensland best homes here.

Why price growth is strengthening in regional cities

Five and a half hours north of Brisbane sits one of the most extravagant beach homes in the world.

Its view of the Pacific Ocean can track the migration path of the humpback whale. Local wildlife lives right by the property, stepping in and out of the house’s backyard. It’s a quiet spot right next to a private beach – and it’s at least seven million dollars more expensive than the average Australian home.

Its name is ‘alghini’, and it’s one of Queensland’s five best homes up for grabs this week.

5/569 Springs Rd, Agnes Water is a five-bedroom, four-bathroom property: a turnkey home, ready to be sold to one of the few who can afford it.

The home was built to disappear into the coastal cliffside, overlooking Honeymoon Bay on the south side of the Great Barrier Reef.

Renowned architect James Cross designed the 2,000 sqm property as a two-pavillion, indoor-outdoor living space: built with materials that would blend with the scenery the more they aged.

The vendors had the property built as a retreat from their busy city lives in Melbourne.

Vendors Jeff Chapman and Carena Shankar said they built the home to lose themselves in Australia’s natural environment, while still being a short trip away from the nearby coastal town.

“Every moment there is magical,” they said. “From watching a pod of whales frolicking with their young ones just off our beach, to witnessing the miracle of a turtle nest hatching … to watching the sun rise over the Coral Sea.”

Forbes Global Properties has alinghi on the market for $8 million.

The owners of 33 Woolcock St, Red Hill, fell in love with their old home at first sight: and turned what was an old, outdated cottage into a house for the modern year.

With five bedrooms and three bathrooms, vendor Anthony Barsha and his partner first visited the property while walking to an Italian language class. Charmed by the location, they soon put forward an offer, finding themselves owning the home days later.

“It went from Monday, [where we] hadn’t really considered the house and it wasn’t on the radar, to Wednesday, being told we owned it,” he said.

The home was then completely renovated: adding master bedrooms, ensuites and amenities to make the home as comfortable as it is convenient, sitting right by the CBD.

“Everything except the front wall of the house has been replaced,” Mr Barsha said. “We wanted to maintain that facade, but we also wanted to make a house that’s a lot more modern in terms of its comfort.”

Place New Farm is seeking the top offer for the property by August 6.

The five-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 17 Stirling Castle Ct, Pelican Waters, has been revamped for a stunning lakeside lifestyle.

Bought in 2021, vendor Melissa Schembri redesigned the property with a focus on ‘wow’ factor: from the fresh interior to the pool, with a swim-up bar and multicolour LED lights.

“I really wanted a pool that wasn’t just made for kids,” she said. “I tried to design the home to be an entertainer’s paradise.”

The home’s pool is built for adults to relax and drink in, as much as it’s built for swimming and play.

Sitting by Lake Magellan, the home features a 6-metre atrium to take in the natural light of the area: a cheaper suburb than some closer to the Sunshine Coast.

“I do think Pelican Waters is a great place to invest with a wonderful future ahead,” Ms Schembri said.

Sotheby’s International Realty Maroochydore is accepting best offers for the home on or before August 8.

A 30-minute drive from the CBD, this five-bedroom, three-bathroom property at 30 Emma Pl, Fig Tree Pockets, has a little pocket of nature all to itself.

The two-storey house has two master bedrooms across its floors, featuring dedicated study and entertaining areas across its open, contemporary design.

The home then gives way to the rest of its 3,843 sqm block, with a rustic firepit near the fence that leads to wide, tree-lined grassland.

The property has plenty of room for outside activities and late night fireside chats.

Arthur Conias Ashgrove director and lead agent Jack Smith said the property is shielded from the rest of the neighbourhood, giving it a private feeling for a family who likes to keep active.

“You’ve got this private piece of nature that’s all yours,” he said. “It’s the perfect area to host guests … plenty of good times have been had there.”

The property is currently accepting offers above $3.2 million.

The newly-built home at 305 Formosa Rd, Gumdale, is a blend of modern and mid-century design in the middle of a sea of green.

With five bedrooms and four bathrooms, the home’s wide living plan features a dedicated courtyard, studio, office and entertainment space, all leading into a wide property littered with trees: perfect for adding a sports court, or simply to get lost in.

The large acreage gives new owners the chance to add new amenities to the property, should they so choose.

Sotheby’s International Realty Brisbane agent Tyson Clarke said the home was designed to be a single-level home that would fit right in with the nature around it, giving them sprawling views of their wide surroundings.

“[It’s] a timeless home, but one that is going to blend in and make the most of its location in the middle of a 2.5 acre block,” he said.

Expressions of interest for the property close on August 28.
