Some owners love their home so much they can’t bear to part with it.

That was so true for the vendors of a 1920s Brisbane Queenslander that when they decided to move, they literally took the house with them.

The Mount Gravatt East property is one of five best homes up for auction, offer or negotiation this week.

Negotiations are being held for 392 Creek Road, Mount Gravatt East, until July 27.

The five-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 392 Rd, Mount Gravatt East, was actually built in New Farm in the 1920s. In 1982, Rob McAfee’s family split the house between two trailers, and transported it across the city to its new and current home.

Mr McAfee said the home’s old owner thought the property had been demolished, until they took him to see its new location.

“He was so pleased the old home had been reinstated to its former glory,” he said.

The current owners of the home have lived there for four decades.

The home, named “Kamakura”, sits high on a hill with stained glass windows, timber panels and an intercom at the entrance, and can be seen from all around the suburb.

“The house has been the perfect entertainer,” Mr McAfee said. “We have absolutely loved all our years here, but it is now time to downsize and let a new family love it like us.”

Eastside Property Group is holding negotiations for the house until July 27.

26 Fitzroy St, Clayfield

When Sharon Hunjas and her family moved into 26 Fitzroy St, Clayfield, they tried to bring their farm to Brisbane.

There are parts of their old family farmhouse that are a part of the five-bedroom, three-bathroom home, such as a hundred year-old bathroom door they moved from the old property.

Owner Sharon Hunjas bought the house from her father a decade after they moved in, and has slowly restored the property over her 40 years living there.

“It’s been a great house, because you’ve got the country connection with it,” she said. “It’s always been a family home. Everyone’s always been welcome.”

Since that time, the site has been home to multiple generations, hosting events such as Christmas parties and ping pong tournaments for family and friends.

Featuring two storeys, a pool and a garden pavilion, the home is built for occasions large and small, surrounded by trees planted by the family decades ago.

“People always used to say to me, ‘would you ever leave this house?’ And I was like, no way,” Ms Hunjas said. “But I’ve been here 40 years now – so it’s time to share it a little bit.”

Ray White Ascot will be auctioning the property on Saturday, August 3.

52 Power St, Wavell Heights

Once, 52 Power St, Wavell Heights, was home to a small two-bedroom cottage from the 1960s. Now, it’s home to a five-bedroom, three-bathroom home with a trendy design: built from the ground up by the current vendors.

Slate Property Developer Kristian Keleher said he wanted the house’s new design to be distinct from what came before, while still keeping in style with the rest of the neighbourhood.

“We combined a traditional Queenslander look with a more contemporary look,” he said.

The house is designed to be an intergenerational home for families in changing circumstances.

With bedrooms on the upper floor and a study and bedroom suite on the ground floor, the home was built to be versatile for families with different living styles.

“We didn’t want a house that was good just for young families or just for mature families,” Mr Keleher said. “It’s a house that can adapt to a family as it grows and changes.”

Place Newmarket is accepting best offers on the house before Monday, August 5.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom house at 37 Birdwood Tce, Auchenflower, was built to be the owners’ dream home.

When the vendors bought the property, they set to work on gutting the previous home: stripping the brick house down and refurbishing it with the help of a Brisbane building design studio.

With a self-draining roof terrace, master suite and temperature-controlled wine room, vendor Mark Douglas said the home was now “unrecognisable” from its previous self.

Built in a character area and featuring an angular black-and-white style, the building is built for a professional couple who want to host gatherings in a place with a view.

“It’s for someone who wants easy care of living,” Mr Douglas said.

NGU Real Estate Toowong agent Leo Liu said the vendors sought to create a home with “an emphasis on outdoor living”, with features such as the grand external staircase leading into the expansive yard.

“People can move in straight away”, he said. “It’s a combination of Queenslander character and modern luxury.”

The property will be put to auction on Sunday, August 11.
