‘Beachside paradise’ could exceed Bronte house price record
You can’t get a home much closer to one of Sydney’s most famous beaches than this, and as a result locals are expecting this pad to fetch more than $25m.
A fund manager’s ‘beachside paradise’ has a $25m guide but locals suspect the final price could even exceed the suburb’s house price record.
MHC Finance’s Andrew Palmer and his wife, Sue, have the five-bedroom Corben Architects residence with 50m frontage at 499 Bronte Rd, Bronte listed with Pillinger’s Simon Exleton in conjunction with PPD Real Estate’s Alexander Phillips.
It’s set for a May 31 auction so given the unobstructed north-easterly ocean views some in the neighbourhood wonder if it could even exceed the record $29m of two years ago, when 3 Tipper Ave sold to AirTree co-founder Craig Blair and his wife, Melanie Caffrey.

$384.5m: Sydney’s mind-blowing house price record
The Palmers built their impressive home, one of the closest freestanding residences to the sand, from the ground up in 2011.
They’d bought the original three-bedroom cottage on the 512 sqm block for $4.75m in 2003 and commissioned the new three-level abode with swimming pool.
The house next door, a knockdown on a smaller 462 sqm block bought by billionaire Will Vicars for $18.75m in 2022, pales in comparison though council records reveal approval for a new house.

Chemist Warehouse’s Tony Basselly just bought 12 Bronte Marine Drive for $25m.
But Bronte Rd is clearly the place where the big money wants to be, with, up the hill, Seamus Dawes, chairman of financial services company Pepper Group, paying $12.3m for No. 518 in 2006, only to purchase the house next door in 2012 for $16.5m.
He knocked the house down and No. 516 is now the site of his swimming pool.
Who knows what that double block would now be worth? $40m?
