Why this run-down home is grabbing eyeballs

Househunters can’t get enough of this dilapidated home ahead of its auction. Is it the location or land size? Or both?

A solution to soaring house prices

The peeling paint, the run-down interiors and broken floors haven’t deterred househunters from showing their keenness for this home in Adelaide’s much sought-after inner-city suburb.

According to the PropTrack Property Preview Report, the North Adelaide house on 1 Taskers Lane was the most viewed South Australian residential listing on realestate.com.au in the past week.

Marketed as a “great opportunity for a keen renovator”, the sandstone-fronted “workers’ cottage”, built in the 1800s, has garnered 7,023 views since it was listed last week.

Ray White Unley agent Daniel Seach said the home had attracted strong interest from the moment it hit the market with as many as 40 groups having viewed the property over two open inspections.

“I have had about 70 enquiries since the start of last week, so it’s definitely generated a lot of interest,” Mr Seach said.

“It’s because of a combination of things. It’s a character property that was also a part of the original Town Acre 922 subdivision. People who are keen to buy in North Adelaide really love the character and history of the area and are driven by that.

“Apart from the location, the home comes with a bit of land and it’s not something you see come up that often in the suburb.”

Set on an allotment of 514sqm, the three-bedroom home is positioned in a quiet lane and enjoys proximity to the popular cafes and restaurants on O’Connell Street and Wellington Square.
