SA home of X-rated rumours snapped up

A Mile End house which raised eyebrows for having open showers for all five bedrooms has a new owner.

Navigating a buyers' market this Spring

It’s the ultimate luxury to have a five-bedroom home that has five ensuite bathrooms. But when this character home at 206 South Rd, Mile End, was listed for sale last month, it caught the attention of buyers for taking the walk-in shower concept to a whole new level.

It seems the idea of stumbling out of bed and straight into the shower went down well with a buyer who has snapped this home for $820,000, as reported on realestate.com.au. It had previously been listed with no price guide given its “unique” floorplan.

According to REA data, the property last sold in 2015 for $585,000.

The home, sold by LJ Hooker, had also raised some curious eyebrows for not only having open showers for all five bedrooms, with just a shower curtain separating the sleeping and bathing area, but images showing towels stored inside the home’s entrance.

In a previous report, The Advertiser mentioned that it understood that social media reports suggesting the home was a former brothel were not true.

The home had been listed as “perfect for business owners with plenty of street frontage, ample client parking and a copious amount of internal space to work in”.

As far as the quirky bedroom showers went, the agent had said: “It’s not unusual for properties to have such unique features, especially in areas where there are older character homes”.

The spokesman said since LJ Hooker had been managing the property it had been leased out to ongoing residential tenants only – with just one tenancy currently in place.

“The landlord/owner found the layout useful for student accommodation – especially when considering the proximity to public transport and the CBD,” he had said.

Also, with the low availability of rental properties, renters are preferring renting rooms – this is another versatile option for future owners.”

According to REA data, the current median rent for a house in Mile End was $520 per week. Apart from the five bedrooms and five bathrooms, the home was listed as having a “study, formal lounge and dining area, separate dining room and a galley-style kitchen at the rear”.

Set on a 779 sqm allotment, the home has a double garage and two single garages along with a storage shed and large outdoor entertaining area.
