Luxury on the edge of the city
On the market for the first time in 35 years, this character home in Walkerville is an entertainer’s delight.
A Walkerville home offers a life of luxury on the edge of the city and, set on a spacious 1516sqm allotment over two titles, has plenty of room for a family to move.
William Simpson, with his brothers Thomas and Matthew, is selling his late parents home, with the property hitting the market for the first time in 35 years.
“They loved the sheer size of it,” Mr Simpson said. “I think they really loved the stateliness of the house. Plus, out the back there’s a lovely rear wall which has external entertaining capabilities which they really enjoyed as well. They also spent a bit of time renovating and added a living space at the side and put some bedrooms on at the back. My mother used to live on that side of town and Dad used to live in the eastern suburbs, and I think they loved this spot because it was close to town and close to schools. My brothers and I grew up there and used to ride our bikes to school and Walkerville’s a fantastic area with great council amenities.
“It’s zoned for Adelaide Botanic High School and is close to Wilderness, St Andrews and St Peters, and we spent a lot of time at the Walkerville Oval, which is about 50m away and we’d play a lot of time playing tennis there and kick the footy. Plus we’d spend a lot of time down by the Torrens playing and riding our bikes. I lived in the property until I was 19 and really loved growing up there.”
The home has five bedrooms – the master suite with a walk-in robe and ensuite – a formal lounge with a bay window, a library, a formal dining room, a cellar and an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room. Outside you’ll find a patio and two double carports, and the home is surrounded by expansive lawns.
“The best part of the house is the entertainment factor,” Mr Simpson says.
“I had a wedding there in 2019 and we had a big marquee on the front lawn, and it was certainly seen as a bit of a party house growing up – right from young parties up to more mature parties as we grew up, which was all a bit of fun and we really enjoyed that aspect of the home.”
With the property now surplus to the brothers’ requirements, it’s now time to say goodbye to the home they’ve loved.
“I hope a family sees it for the fantastic opportunity it offers them for the next 30 or so years. It’s really been a wonderful home to grow up in and I’m sure another family will love it.”
