Landmark Woodville estate sets new suburb record
On the market for the first time in 54 years, this home has just obliterated the price record for Woodville. Take a look inside to see why it fetched such a colossal sum.
There are no signs of Adelaide’s property market cooling just yet with the recent sale of a landmark estate setting a new price benchmark for its western suburb.
The iconic property at 519 Torrens Rd, Woodville, which had been in the same family for 54 years, has been snapped up for $2,550,000.
According to property records, the top spot was previously held by 90 Woodville Rd that sold for $2,315,000 in December 2018.
The home was presented to market by Sharyn Yelland of Giordano & Partners, with Grant Giordano as the co-agent.
“Properties like these rarely come up for sale and it generated a lot of interest from local and overseas buyers as well,” Ms Yelland said.
“It’s a record house price for the suburb and the buyers are a local family,” she said.
Set on 1880sqm block, the Queen Anne villa was built in 1890. Boasting of lush English gardens and luxurious interiors, it is a fine example of the restoration work done by its residents in turning this character-filled home into a luxurious abode.
Past the wrought iron gates, a horseshoe driveway leads the way to the four-bedroom residence with a stone frontage and verandas.
Given the vendor’s affinity to European interiors and English gardens, the house has been restored around that ethos. Detailed cornicing, crystal chandeliers, decorative moulding and classic archways are present throughout the home.
The formal sitting room is equally grand and boasts a curved bay window which overlooks a sunken garden with a stunning water feature. Large picture windows in the dining room offer views of a latticed courtyard.
There is plenty of room both inside and outside the home to entertain family and friends. A large family room opens to a rear tree-lined garden.
The master bedroom, which also has access to the landscaped front gardens, has an ensuite, walk-in robes and dual vanities.
Keeping with the theme, the kitchen too makes a statement with elegant cabinetry, marble splashback and a French-style skylight.
The home also features a stunning library with stairs leading to a spacious wine cellar. A large office keeps with the aristocratic theme of the home and features detailed cabinetry, ornate ceilings and an open fireplace.
Apart from an enviable location, other highlights of the home include ducted reverse-cycle airconditioning, 13kW solar system, automatic sprinklers and an alarm system.
