After arriving in Sydney late on Friday night, King Charles and Queen Camilla were spotted strolling through the generous grounds of Admiralty House on Sydney’s north shore early Saturday morning and taking it its $100m+ dollar views.

Kirribilli’s Admiralty House is a sublime waterfront home the King, Queen and the rest of the Royals know very well. Charles and Camilla stayed there on a previous visit to Australia in 2012, while Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince Harry and Princess Meghan have also graced the Victorian sandstone manner during their time Down Under.

Late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip stayed at the mansion 16 times.

A phalanx of world leaders have visited also, including US President Joe Biden.

The official residence of the Governor-General, the King’s representative in Sydney, Admiralty House boasts iconic panoramic views of the world’s most famous harbour, including those of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

It sits at the tip of Kirribilli Point, alongside Kirribilli House, the Sydney residence of the Prime Minister and is a great example of Victorian Regency and Italianate architecture.

The home was valued at around $85m in 2018.

Sydney real estate prices have skyrocketed by 50 per cent in that time, according to PropTrack.

However given the explosion in property values at the top end of the Sydney market, a valuation of around $150m might be well short of the mark, if Admiralty House was ever listed for sale.

Earlier this month tech guru and Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquar sold his rambling Point Piper mansion for a record-equalling home price record of $130m and its harbour views pale in comparison to those boasted by Admiralty House.

Admiralty House earned its name as the home of the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Australian Navy’s Squadron at the beginning of the last century.

According to the Naval Historical Historical Society of Australia: “The sandstone house is one of Sydney’s finest quality mansions set in one of the most desirable locations. Its Georgian style has been maintained despite successive modernisations.

“The residence has two storeys with a slate hipped-gable roof and verandas providing harbour views around each storey.

“Double French Doors with full-length shutters open onto each veranda and behind them the interior is elegantly decorated with fine furnishings that include items have been sought and acquired by The Australiana Fund.

“The house has fine Gatehouse gates and gardens, a boat landing and a former fortification and Marine Barracks that now house a swimming pool with facilities.”

The house itself dates back to a 1843 when a private dwelling was first built on the site after the property was bought for £1400. It has previously served as grazing land for cattle.

The doors of Admiralty House are occasionally thrown open for open days to public viewing.
