‘What on earth?’: Woman accidentally buys winning $5M Lott ticket

She says her mortgage is now paid off and a new business venture could finally become a reality after accidentally buying the ticket.

Two people split record-breaking $200 million Powerball

A woman has described the wild accident that led her to win $5 million in the latest Powerball draw.

The Brisbane resident held the only division one winning entry in Thursday’s draw 1447 but said if everything went to plan, she would have never bought the ticket.

“My husband normally buys our entries, but he was having a few issues, so I said, ‘Oh, I’ll just jump on and do it’,” she told the Lott.

“He figured it out and bought an entry, but by that stage, so had I!”

She told the Lott she was struggling to process the shock when they called her to break the news to her.

“I don’t even know what to say!” she said.

“What on earth has happened?”

The couple said they will use the money to pay off their mortgage and then will consider booking an overseas holiday or starting a new business venture.

“This is going to change our life!,” she said.

The winning numbers were 25, 12, 6, 20, 26, 16 and 7, while the all-important Powerball number was 2.

The big win comes after a record $200 million Powerball jackpot last Thursday in which two tickets took home an equal share of the winnings.

A couple from Singleton in NSW’s Hunter region and a Queensland woman from the Brisbane suburb of Hawthorne each won $100 million in the draw.

The last highest jackpot in Australian history was $160 million shared between three people in 2022.
