Unluckiest number in lotto revealed as lottery jackpots to $597 million
The most and least frequently drawn lottery numbers have been revealed, just in time for a $597 million jackpot.
It’s not just a superstition.
While it’s long been dismissed as a baseless belief, Aussies who insist the number 13 is unlucky have been vindicated with the number revealed as the least drawn in one of the world’s biggest lotteries.
An analysis by The Lottery Office of how frequently numbers have been drawn in the USA Mega Lotto over the past six months shows 13 is the most overdue number.
The two-digit harbinger of bad luck hasn’t been drawn in the highly paying lottery’s past 52 draws, last making an appearance back in May.
In that time, the numbers 22, 26 and 66 have been the most frequently drawn, each appearing nine times, followed by 23 and 54 which have been drawn seven times.
The analysis comes as the USA Mega Lotto jackpots to a “life-changing” $597 million this Saturday.
Run by Aussie company The Lottery Office, the USA Mega Lotto is directly matched to the US Mega Millions – one of the US’s biggest prize draws.
The Lottery Office chief executive Jaclyn Wood explained the company as “Australia’s ticket to the world’s largest official lotteries”, offering Aussies the chance to access jackpots that dwarf those offered by local lotteries.
So if an Aussie entrants’ numbers in the USA Mega Lotto are drawn in the US Mega Millions, they can expect an equivalent payout.
“When our customers win, we pay them the exact amount of the winnings we collect from the overseas lottery ticket,” Ms Wood said.
“The Lottery Office is 100 per cent Australian-owned and operated. We are passionate about enabling Australians to benefit from international lotteries, as those draws are often significantly larger on average than what you will find in other Australian lotteries.”
The USA Mega Lotto has already exceeded $1 billion twice this year, while the biggest prize that has gone up for grabs in an Australian lottery was $200 million Powerball jackpot in January.
