One-third of Aussies expected to take part in largest Oz Lotto jackpot
Thousands of Australians are expected to take part in Oz Lotto’s largest jackpot after the winning prize ballooned to $100m, the largest in the game’s history.
One-third of Australian adults are expected to buy a ticket for a chance to win Oz Lotto’s largest jackpot in more than a decade.
One in three Aussies are anticipated to have a ticket to the $100m Oz Lotto, which increased from $50m to $75m after the jackpot failed to produce a winner for two weeks in a row.
Now the prize has increased to a staggering $100m, giving Australians a one in 62,891,499 chance to take home the enormous prize on Tuesday evening.
Those who are yet to take part can get their hands on a ticket before 7.25pm on Tuesday.
If one person is revealed to be the winner of the megadraw, they will go down as the biggest Oz Lotto winner in the game’s history.
The last time Oz Lotto reached this eye-watering size was in 2012 when four division one winners took home the coveted $100m jackpot.
For the person who has the winning ticket, they may receive a call from The Lott official Khat McIntyre shortly after 8.30pm.
“Hearing the raw emotion through the phone is unforgettable and the excitement is always contagious,” Ms McIntyre told Yahoo News.
The call, which is either made by Ms McIntyre or another colleague – or both if there is more than one winner – will be made from The Lott’s Queensland office on Tuesday night shortly after 8.30pm.
“If there is a division one winner, they can expect a call from an 07 number, as we’re based in Queensland,” Ms McIntyre said.
Those who received the call might not believe their ears at first, Ms McIntyre said, recalling previous winners screaming with excitement and erupting into joyous laughter once they learnt the result.
“Some winners check their ticket multiple times, others wake up in the middle of the night thinking it was all a dream,” she said.
“Then comes the exciting part, which is deciding how to spend it.”
