The result came after lottery experts revealed the suburbs you should be buying in to increase your chances of becoming a lotto millionaire.

In the 12 months ending 30 June 2022, 532 winning entries across Australia in all lottery games have delivered more than $1.62 billion in division one prize money.

Victoria retained the title of the state with the most division one wins for the sixth year in a row – 153 wins worth $467 million.

NSW and the ACT were not too far behind, with 141 division one wins collecting $464.8 million in prize money.

Across Australia, a total of 376 millionaires were created by division one wins – the equivalent of more than one every day of the year.

NSW claimed more than half of the nation’s division one Powerball wins, with nine of the 15 wins in 2022 – a total of $221,084,400.39, according to experts at The Lott.

Victoria claimed second place with three wins so far this year, with one win each in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

After a complete lack of division one winners during the past four Powerball draws, the upcoming draw on Thursday evening is the first time Powerball has offered $100 million this year.

The luckiest picks and postcodes have been revealed leading up to the big day, with around half of Australian adults expected to put in an entry.

In NSW and the ACT, Port Macquarie (2444) sold three division one winning lottery entries, whereas in Victoria, Frankston (3199) sold four division one winning entries.

The Lott said the most frequently drawn lotto numbers from the main barrel (from where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35) are 17, 9, 2 and 25.

In South Australia, Adelaide (5000) also sold three division one winning entries, while in Queensland, Bundaberg, North Bundaberg (4670) and Rural View and Slade Point (4740) sold three division one winning entries each.

In Tasmania, Launceston and Newstead (7250) sold two division one winning entries and in the Northern Territory, the postcode of Berrimah (0828) delivered the Top End’s biggest division one prize from an in-store ticket.

In Western Australia, Hamilton Hill, Yangebub and Spearwood (6163) sold five division one winning entries.

The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said the results “showed big wins could occur anywhere at any time”.

“As Australia’s big lottery winners from the past 12 months found themselves emerging from the tribulations of pandemic restrictions, they shared different and unique ways they hoped to revel in their incredible division one wins,” Mr Eddy said.

“We heard from winners who were ready to embark on their first-ever overseas trip since the peak of the pandemic; those who couldn’t wait to share their windfalls with their friends and families.

“One winner even enjoyed a helicopter pub crawl across Darwin with her family,” he said.

To win Powerball’s division one prize, the winner “needs to match all seven winning numbers, drawn from a barrel of 35, and the all-important single Powerball number, drawn from a separate barrel of 20”.

The Lott said the most frequently drawn numbers from the main barrel (from where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35) are 17, 9, 2 and 25.

The most frequently drawn Powerball number from the other Powerball barrel, where a single Powerball number is drawn from 20, is 19.

“While we saw pockets of major lottery prizes across Australian states and territories last financial year, it’s important to remember that a division one win can land anywhere,” Mr Eddy said.

“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing good fortune awaits them elsewhere.

“As many lottery winners tell us, you’ve got to be in it for the chance to win it,” he said

“This weekend is Saturday Lotto’s $30 Million Megadraw – the biggest offer of any Australian lottery game at the moment,” The Lott said.
