Eye-watering US jackpot Aussies have a chance at winning
As a mega lotto jackpot hits a massive $547 million, the lucky numbers that could unlock a fortune have been revealed.
Australians have a shot at an eye-watering US lottery with a massive $547 million jackpot up for grabs on Saturday.
The USA Mega Lotto jackpot is more than triple the amount of the record $150 million Powerball won in May by a single ticket in South Australia. The winner was a middle-aged Adelaide man, who said he had “never screamed so loud or jumped so high” as when he scanned the second of two of his Powerball tickets only to discover he had nabbed the entire $150m haul.
The massive jackpot, which would be the biggest win ever if won by an Aussie, comes at The Lottery Office has revealed the luckiest numbers in the USA Mega Lotto.
It found that over the past year the most frequently drawn numbers in the main draw were 3, which had each been drawn 13 times.Meanwhile, 7 and 11 have been drawn most often as “mega” numbers – the luckiest numbers in the lottery.
Next was number 61, which had been drawn 12 times in the main draw followed by 10, 18, 33 and 42, which were each drawn 11 times over the past year.
Further down the “lucky” list were “mega” numbers 3, 18 and 24, which have been drawn seven times over the last year.
However, it’s still a real game of chance, with Lottery Office Chief Executive Jaclyn Wood saying the dilemma for players is whether the numbers would continue to hold luck or whether others would start to appear more.
“Every number does have an equal chance of being drawn, and we’ll be crossing our fingers
that no matter what numbers our players decide to back, an Aussie will be the winner,’’ Ms
Wood said.
“Winning a jackpot of this size would be a life changing event for anyone and mean they
would never have to worry about money again.”
When it comes to which numbers haven’t made much of an appearance, 41 hasn’t fallen since February 24, and 29 hasn’t been drawn since March 27. Meanwhile, 38 hasn’t made an appearance since March 30 and 20 since April 6.
The Lottery Office, which is wholly Australian-owned, allows Aussies a shot at the massive US prize pool through its government-licenced USA Mega Lotto, which is matched to the US Mega Millions lottery. Tickets for Saturday’s USA Mega Lotto can be purchased until Saturday at 10am AEST.
The biggest payout in US Mega Millions history was $2.4 billion on August 8 in 2023.
Division 2 prizes can be lucrative, with two players claiming the Division 2 prize in Wednesday’s draw which was worth more than $1.5 million.
