Australia's biggest lotto winners ever

Powerball is set to jackpot from $40 million after no one took out the division one prize.

The numbers you needed this week were 34, 13, 1, 8, 3, 5, 19 and the Powerball was 11.

So far this year, there have been 13 division one wins that have collectively taken home more than $470 million.

This is the fourth time a $40 million prize has been offered to players in 2021. However, each time the cash wasn’t claimed and it soared to an even larger number.

Late last month, a South Melbourne couple snapped up a $60 million Powerball prize.

“I found out while I was watching TV with my wife,” the winner told lottery officials at the time.

“We knew straight after the draw that we had won,” the winner continued.

“We were screaming and crying. It was just disbelief. It was amazing. We’ve just been trying to calm down ever since.

“I am feeling amazing, we both are. It has been a very tough year for us – really horrible. But this changes everything! It’s a dream come true. We’ve been fantasising about this moment and now it’s here and we’re multi-millionaires.”

The pair had already come up with a plan for how they could sell their money.

“I want to pay off the home loan and some debts we have,” the husband said.

“We’re looking at retiring, and of course we’ll help the kids. And we’ll have some good holidays, both interstate and overseas.

“We’ll definitely buy a new car and we’d love to eventually buy a new house.”

The last time a division one prize was nabbed was late last month by a Melbourne couple.

In previous Powerball draws, ticket sales have picked when prizes have reached around this magnitude.

For a $80 million Powerball, ticket sales peaked just after 5pm on the day of the draw, with more than 4000 tickets selling each minute.

The draw is announced at 8.30pm AEDT.

The last chance to buy a ticket is an hour beforehand, at 7.30pm.
