Melbourne man wins $80 million Powerball

Powerball will jackpot from $3 million after no one took out the big prize but there were some big division two winners.

Two people managed to score $111,111 each in division two.

The numbers you needed this week were 3, 20, 8, 6, 2, 17, 23 and the powerball was 2.

So far in 2021, there have been 11 Powerball division one winners who have collectively scored $400 million.

For the entire year, nobody has won $3 million – instead it has always been won when the jackpot has risen to a higher prize pool.

In fact, the last time someone picked up that $3 million starting prize, was way back in November 2018.

In the past month, the prize kept rolling over, making it climb to $20 million last Thursday.

That division one prize was nabbed by a Canberra couple in their 30s who couldn’t believe their luck.

The Canberra winners not only managed to score the staggering $20 million prize, they also scored a whopping division two return.

That meant they won $20 million and $850,000 in two separate prizes.

The couple, based in Belconnen in the ACT, initially ignored calls after the draw on Thursday night, unaware they held the only division one winning entry.

Their winnings amount was a total of $20,852,900.31.

“Oh my god” the winning man said when lotto officials contacted him, while his wife screamed in the background.

“I saw I had two missed calls, and I thought, ‘Who’s calling me at this time?’ I thought, ‘I’m not answering this. They’re probably ringing with bad news.’ I’m glad I answered now,” he continued.

“We were literally still working when you called.”

Last week’s winner added: “I don’t buy lottery tickets that often, but lately we’ve been like, ‘Let’s just do it. Who knows?’

“No jokes, two nights ago, I was lying in bed, and these numbers pop into my head randomly.

“I bought a ticket into Set for Life using those numbers. But while I was getting that, I just thought I’d throw in a PowerHit entry as Powerball had $20 million.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it!”

So far this year, Powerball has welcomed 11 division one winners – seven from NSW, three from Queensland and one from Victoria.
