Patrick Schwarzenegger shared the moment he found out that he booked The White Lotus, sparking a debate
The son of two A-listers has shared the tearful moment he got some joyful news – but the clip has divided.
Patrick Schwarzenegger shared the sweet moment he found out that he booked The White Lotus, sparking a nepotism debate.
The actor, 31, is the son of famous journalist Maria Shriver, and bodybuilder turned movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
His sister, Katherine, is married to movie star Chris Pratt. It is safe to say he grew up around Hollywood and political elites.
Even though he has been a working actor for years, his role in season three of the acclaimed series The White Lotus has gained him a whole new level of fame.
The 31-year-old took to Instagram to show the moment he told his famous family that he won the part.
The actor is seen crying with joy and hugging his mum and sister at a fancy restaurant that looks like it is in some resort.
“It’s a special moment when you get to celebrate with people you love. It was one of those dream come true moments for me,” he wrote.
Interestingly, the clip sparked a debate. Even though Schwarzenegger has been earning critical claim for his performance in The White Lotus, playing a privileged son from an affluent family on vacation, people online have had mixed reactions to the emotional video.
Some claimed it was a heartwarming moment, but others found it a bit cringe, considering it isn’t that surprising that someone from such a privileged background would land one of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood.
“So nice to see nepotism babies finally getting opportunities like this,” one joked.
“The ultimate Nepo baby gets job playing himself,” another said.
“Such a rags to riches story,” another joked.
“A rich person gets richer,” someone else said.
“He is literary living in The White Lotus, no need to act,” one said.
Not everyone found the moment distasteful though, as others pointed out he’d earned the role and was allowed to celebrate.
“Why is he so disliked?” one asked.
“At least he’s grateful, it’s not like he doesn’t appreciate his privilege,” another argued.
“He does an excellent job. So many bitter sad people in the comments,” one remarked.
“He is so good in it! How can people not be happy for others if they obviously still deserve it?” one asked.
Schwarzenegger has previously expressed his frustration with people assuming he has landed roles because of his family.
“I know there are people who’ll say I only got this role because of who my dad is,” Schwarzenegger told The Sunday Times.
“They’re not seeing that I’ve had 10 years of acting classes, put on school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on.
“Of course, it’s frustrating and you can get boxed in and you think at that moment, I wish I didn’t have my last name. But that’s a small moment.”
